Doug Ford leaving Brampton on its own as COVID-19 pandemic rages

Ford still refuses to invest in helping Brampton survive lockdown and the pandemic

QUEEN’S PARK — Brampton NDP MPPs Sara Singh (Brampton Centre), Gurratan Singh (Brampton East) and Kevin Yarde (Brampton North) released the following statement today, following NDP Deputy Leader Sara Singh’s questions to the Ford government in question period Tuesday morning:

“It is deeply disturbing that Doug Ford continues to try and gaslight Bramptonians with cooked up statistics downplaying the pandemic’s impact. Especially when Peel Public Health data definitively confirms what Brampton families have been telling Mr. Ford for months. Essential workers on the front lines in manufacturing, transport and health care – workers that are predominantly Black or people of colour – have been exponentially more likely to be infected by this dangerous virus.

Working people in communities hit hardest by the health and economic crisis of COVID-19 don’t need Doug Ford to tell them the pandemic could be worse.

Brampton’s people need Doug Ford to step up now and invest in testing and tracing, culturally specific COVID-19 outreach, urgent and direct financial support for small businesses, and direct financial support to the folks who work in them, starting with guaranteed paid sick days. They need him to urgently hire thousands of PSWs province-wide, to keep our elders receiving home care or long-term care safe and healthy. And they need him to get class sizes down to COVID-19-safe levels by capping them at 15.

Instead, Doug Ford is telling Bramptonians that they’re on their own.”
